When I went through my last job search, the thing that made the biggest difference to my final offers wasn’t anything I did in an interview. It was timing.
I scheduled my onsites with the companies I cared about within the same two-week window. When the offers came in around the same time, I could compare them honestly and use each one in conversations with the others. That’s what I want to walk you through here.
A quick note: this is what worked for me and what I’ve seen work for others. It isn’t legal or financial advice, and every company’s process is different.
Step 1: Plan your timeline backwards

Competing offers only help if they exist at the same time. An offer that expired last week isn’t leverage.
- Start with warm-ups. Apply to a few companies you care less about about four weeks before your target companies. Your first loop is always your roughest.
- Batch your phone screens. Once you’re ready, schedule target-company screens close together.
- Put all target... premium content.
