Rounds
- I had 3 rounds not including the recruiter call. After the initial recruiter call it was a 1:1 with the engineering manager asking my some basic technical questions, work experience background, and some JavaScript related questions, pretty basic stuff.
I was assigned a take home test at the end of the interview which was a mockup of a page that needed to be built out in vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The mock consisted of a webpage with a background image, a single floating CTA (call to action/button) centered in the middle of the page and when clicked on, needed to launch a modal, and inside of that modal needed to be a random embedded youtube video. Pretty straight forward. This was a while back and this test has likely changed to the introduction of LLMs and agentic assistance so don’t take this too literal.
Round 2 was a panel interview consisting of more random technical questions, behavioral questions, and then walking though the code of the take home assessment while demoing it. I had to explain my code and decisions on why/how I built the required functionality.
3rd and final round was another panel consisting of the entire engineering team I would be a part of and other adjacent team members to chime in as a “pulse check/vibe check” as I would be likely collaborating with them also.
After the 3rd round I was contacted from the recruiter with an offer. Start date, details, where they could ship a laptop/work machine etc, verbal offer with a official offer letter to sign later etc.
Questions asked
- tell us about a time you had to ship something with little information or requirements?
- how would you handle or give critical feedback to a colleague?
- what are some of the technical challenges of something you worked on and how did you overcome them?
- how would you approach stakeholder if an ask or requirement is out of scope for the given deadline?
Tips
- emphasize being an avid gamer and that you actually play the IPs of Activision, this was mentioned a few times during the interview process as this is a gaming company and being familiar with the companies IPs is important to them.
